Kwame Nkrumah was one of the worst leaders- Former GIMPA Rector

A former rector at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei blasted the country’s first president Dr Kwame Nkrumah, saying that most of the country’s ills could be traced back to him, reports Ghana web.

He further argued that Nkrumah’s first years in office were “brilliant” however; later on in his presidency he was side-tracked by his socialist beliefs.
“Despite the first decade of Nkrumah’s wonderful period, he was one of the worst leaders – murderous, despotic and everything else,” the academic was quoted saying.

He further slammed other African leaders who he said were worse than leaders from other parts of the world although they were not killing dissenting voices.
“They are worse than iron fists. They may not be harsh brutal killing people but they are stealing money doing everything else. In fact, our people are strong in the wrong direction.”

According to the Daily Guide late last year opposition party leader Akua Donkor defended president John Mahama saying that the country’s economic trouble were not of his making but were historic, tracing their roots president Nkrumah’s regime.

The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) leader stated that Dr. Nkrumah made some weird decisions by changing the country’s currency from Pounds to Cedis.
The move, she noted, “was the genesis of Ghana’s unending problems.”
