The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. John Nelson Buah has expressed the University’s resolve to pursue collaborations that will enhance the image of UCC.
He noted that this was necessary because academic knowledge needs to be shared among colleagues and institutions for the development of universities and the society at large.
Prof. Nelson Buah made this observation when a Ghanaian Professor of Cardiology from the University Hospital of Wales Health Park, Cardiff, Prof. Nicholas Ossei-Gerning, called on him in his office. He observed that the success of the collaboration depended on the commitment and hard work from both sides.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor urged the visiting scholar to interact with faculty and students to come out with suggestions to improve the health system in Ghana stressing that “Let’s go beyond lectures and find time to examine the system and structures we have on the ground and determine how best we can streamline them”.
Responding, Prof. Ossei-Gerning who is also the Silas Doudu Chair of Cardiology, UCC indicated that he was impressed with the sheer hard work and speed with which the School of Medical Sciences has developed into a top-notch medical training facility in the country. He indicated that it was his hope that the partnership could be nurtured and developed for the mutual benefit of all stakeholders.
Prof. Ossei-Gerning who will be delivering a Public lecture during his visit, said he has come with passion and desire to learn and share with all to help grow in the field on medicine and medical training.
The Provost, College of Health and Allied Sciences, (CHLS) UCC, Prof. H. S. Amonoo-Kuofi, accompanied Prof. Ossei-Gerning on the visit.
Others were the Deputy Registrar, Human Resource, Dr. Kweku Gyasi Badu, Acting Dean, SMS UCC, Prof. (Mrs.) Gladys Amponsah, Head, Department of Internal Medicine and Therapeutics, School of Medical Sciences; Dr. Harold Ayittey; College Registrar, College of Health and Allied Sciences; Mr. Joseph Gordon Mensah and Faculty Officer, School of Medical Sciences , Mr. David Larbi.
