4 Things You didn't Know about UCC

University of Cape Coast Main Library

University of Cape Coast has built a reputation as one of the top universities in Ghana. Do you think you know this prestigious institution very well?
Here are four(4) things we bet you didn't know about the University of Cape Coast.

1. A Rare Sea Front University

The University of Cape Coast is one of the rear universities that directly faces the sea. There are a lot more universities in coastal areas but it is very rear to see a University facing the sea almost directly. I know of the famous Aberystwyth University which offers sea front accommodation for students, but UCC’s location continues to be a rare one for a University. Impressive huh?

2. University of Shrines?

Well, there are at least two shrines in the University – One situated inside Amamoma, and the other on the North Campus of the University, specifically the site for the “new” School of Business Building. Don't go looking for them. :D

3. Students attend 6.30 am lectures and write quizzes as early as 4.30 am.

It is rare to have lectures at 6.30 am or to wake up for a quiz at 4:00 am on a Sunday, but it is very normal in UCC. If you have never studied there, you wouldn’t believe it. Official Timetable for most departments have lectures starting at 6.30 am.

4. Biggest library in Ghana.

Is this controversial? Errm, let’s just say the University has the “biggest Library Space” in Ghana. I mean, bigger space does not mean more books right? So yeah! UCC has the biggest library (space) in Ghana.

Others:

The university originally started  as a Graduate Teacher Training College. Until quite recently, UCC was the only University offering the unique Bachelor of Commerce programme in Ghana.
