The University of Cape Coast Students' Parliament emerged first runners-up of the Commonwealth Debate organised by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.
The inter university students' Parliament debate competition was held on Monday, 14th March, 2016 at the Accra International Conference Centre as the Parliament of Ghana observed the 2016 Commonwealth Day under the theme, "An Inclusive Commonwealth".
The program which was chaired by Hon. Joe Ghartey, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, was participated by Students' Parliament from the University of Ghana(UG), University of Professional Studies (UPS), University of Cape Coast(UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
Speaking on the motion, "Ghana should have a new roll for the November 2016 General elections", debaters from UCC, UPS, and KNUST spoke for the motion and their colleagues from UG and UENR spoke against the motion.
UPS and UENR were eliminated after the first round of the competition, leaving UCC, UG and KNUST still in the race for the ultimate prize. At the end of the competition, UG emerged victorious with UCC as the first runners-up, followed by KNUST.
The chairman of the program, Hon. Joe Ghartey, in his remarks commended the students for their great work and advised them to do well to cite properly the source of their information in any given work.
The Chairman again encouraged students to work harder in order to attain higher heights in education.
Also present at the program were Students' Parliament from the Zenith University College and Central University.
