Professor Daniel Kwame Bediako
Professor Daniel Kwame Bediako has been inducted as Vice Chancellor of the Valley View University. Until his induction, Prof Bediako, whose appointment took effect in November 2015, has served the university for six (6) years: as a lecturer of School of Theology and Missions, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, and the Acting Pro Vice Chancellor.

Speaking at the colourful ceremony, Pastor Dr. Kwame Boakye Kwanin, Chairman, Valley View University Council, expressed his appreciation to the University Council and commended past leadership for their support towards the growth of the University, which is considered the best private university in the country. He praised Prof Bediako for his rich experience in both national and international leadership as well as his deep knowledge in administration.

In his acceptance speech, Prof Bediako, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by the University Council, the West Central Africa Division, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church in general. He made known his gratefulness for the remarkable opportunity given him to serve in that high capacity.  He promised to follow the steps of the past leaders who set high standards for academic leadership, and champion the cause of private tertiary education in the country.

He said despite the fact that the university is touted as the best private university in the country; it had for years battled with its infrastructural development and academic staffing. Prof Bediako however assured that, his vision is to make the university the leading centre for excellence and valued-based Christian education. He said, “Fortunately, the time is right for us to achieve this, seeing that the foundational structures have already been laid and we can proudly build upon these structures. The present situation requires us to embrace courage and change and to uphold clear confidence in our identity and values to be able to fulfil our mission”.

He promised to give preference to students’ needs as a proud alumnus because, the students are the definitive reason for a university’s life and work and, academic success must be measured in terms of students’ successes. Prof Bediako emphasised on the need to “create an enabling environment for learning and personal growth by ensuring a student-focused culture of service, and focusing relentlessly on students’ success from admissions to graduation”.

He therefore assured the university to review the strategic plan of the university to ensure that, Valley View University becomes the firm ground for higher education in the country. Professor Daniel Bediako added that, “The University’s commitment to excellence must be demonstrated in its academic programmes, teaching and research, integrity in the conduct of examinations, and the students’ successes.

The reputation of every university hinges upon the quality of its academic programmes; therefore, Valley View shall embark upon a thorough evaluation of its existing programmes, discontinue with those that are less viable and further strengthening those that are marketable and self-supporting”. He finally pledged to work with all workers of the university to ensure transparent leadership and full commitment to the core values of the institution.

Among the dignitaries who witnessed the colourful induction ceremony were people from the Diplomatic Corps, Educational and Health Directorates, Representatives from Educational Institutions, Directors and Pastors from the various Seventh-day Adventist Church Fields, Chiefs and Government Representatives, and the President of the West-Central Africa Division, Dr Elie Weick-Dido.
