UCC SRC LAUNCHES 53RD WEEK CELEBRATION


The Students' Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast(UCC) has launched its 53rd Week Celebration under the theme “2016 and Beyond, Educating and Ensuring A Peaceful Election Experience in Ghana: The Role of the Youth”

The launch which came off at the University's Main Auditorium on Saturday March 19, 2016 was chaired by the Vice Dean of Students and Head of Department of Social Science, Prof Daniel Okai Anti.

The first speaker at the event who is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, Dr. K. A. Tuffuor speaking on the topic "Effects of Over Politicization of National Issues in the 21st Century; What the Youth Should do", Dr. Tuffuor explained that in addressing national issues, politicization of the issues should be avoided. “The University is a hub for development and people in academia including students should be the ones involved in policy making in the nation”, he added. He explained that students should engage in thorough analysis of sensitive national issues through debate and conduct research on national issues. He  also indicated that students should not allow themselves to be used to foil trouble.


The Central Regional Communications Director of the Progressive People's Party(PPP), Mr. Abraham Agyekum Sunday, also gave a presentation on the topic "The Role of the Youth in Ensuring and Promoting Peaceful Elections 2016". In his speech he explained that the youth are the deciders of every election in the country. Thus, the youth in promoting peaceful and perfect elections should consider the interest of a better future when voting for a candidate in an election.

"As voters or as deciders in an election, decide on the position you are making, whether or not it is in the interest of your future or it is in the interest of somebody's position he is going to accomplish tomorrow", he said.

The Dean of Students of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Kwao Edjah who was present at the launch advised students to comport themselves during the SRC Week Celebration. He also advised students to desist from unhealthy competitions and challenges during the University's SRC, Local NUGS and JCR election period which comes off soon. Prof. Edjah in the end officially launched the 53rd SRC Week Celebration of the University of Cape Coast.

The SRC Entertainment Chairman, Mr. Gyasi Midley, in disclosing the details of the Week Celebration, indicated the official dates and the activities involved in the celebration.
The SRC Week Celebration is slated to start on Wednesday, 6th April to Sunday, 10th April, 2016.
The Chairman for the launch, Prof. Daniel Okai Anti was grateful for the massive turnout by the students. He encouraged them to take part in the week celebration in order to ensure a successful 53rd SRC Week Celebration.
