Professor Kwaku Boakye, a Senior Lecturer
of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management of the University of
Cape Coast (HOTSA- UCC) has observed that, students do not approach lecturers
with their problem and has advised them to create good relationship with
lecturers by building networks with them.
Prof. Boakye was addressing students of the
University of Cape Coast on Friday 22nd April, 2016 at a seminar organized by
the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management aimed at preparing students
for the job market.
"Each of the lecturers has office
hours, it is your legal right to go to the lecturer no matter how
unapproachable the person is and engage the lecturer on issue concerning on
what you've been taught" Prof Boakye explained.
He also recounted that most often,
companies contact the department to recruit students to fill immediate job
positions. “Imagine if you visit your lecturer’s office twice a semester per a
lecturer, your name will be on the lecturer’s mind. Sometimes, companies
contact us that they need someone to fill this position. but the problem is
whose name will pop up in any lecturer’s mind.” He added.
The Senior lecturer counseled student to
join groups that will build their capacity because that’s what makes one excel
in a job. He also indicated that student should read wide to further their knowledge
to make the difference that the corporate world is looking for.
HOSTA UCC elections were held immediately
after the seminar to choose the next batch of executives to steer the affairs
of the association in the next academic year.
