President Mahama addressed students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) urging them to take advantage of the enabling environment that government is creating to ensure their development into becoming entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the theme “Rising Opportunities, Entrepreneurship, and a Changing Ghana” on Thursday, 5th May 2016 at the New Examination Center (NEC) Auditorium of the University. President Mahama challenges students to enhance their entrepreneurial skills to help in job creation.
“I see many entrepreneurs amongst you who will grow small businesses into multi million-dollar business conglomerate in the future and employ people far beyond the expectation of government. I see a nation filled with an energetic, innovating and promising youth ready to take advantage of the rising opportunities that government is generating together with the private sector. This is possible because we have navigated the rough terrain and have found ourselves on the path of rising opportunities, entrepreneurship and a changing Ghana.” He said.
The President also stated that the ‘Skill Development Fund’ and ‘Youth Enterprise Support' have been made available to support students in their various business endeavours.
Present at the event were dignitaries of national offices; Minister of Education, Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang - Deputy Minister of Education in charge of tertiary institutions - Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Communication - Dr. Edward K. O. Boamah and Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Dominic Darwin Kuupole among others, dignitaries of Regional and District offices, other university authorities, student leadership and the entire university community.
Prof. Kuupole who gave the opening address tackled a number of pertinent issues affecting the University such as the poor road system, insecurity on campus among others. He also gave a hand of invitation to His Excellency John Mahama to the upcoming graduation in August. He finally welcomed the President on behalf of the entire university community.

The president outlined twelve (12) developmental projects targeted to the University of Cape Coast, six (6) of which are allocated to the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) .
He also pointed out the establishment of the Students Union Complex, the construction of the new Administration Block, the allocation of 1.3 million Ghana Cedis to the Directorate of Research and Innovation Consultancy to undertake Research works and to commence the production of Glassware, a grant of 434,250 Ghana Cedis to the Department of Vocational and Technical Education (VOTEC) to expand their human resource capacity and to adapt modern ways of production such as computer aided designing. An amount of 984,896 Ghana Cedis to the Department of Aquatic and Fisheries to provide training in fish farming to the private sector and other interested individuals.
The President also touched on some issues ranging from the history of Ghana's development and democracy, Vision 2020; which gave birth to the Aboadze Thermal Plant, Adenta SSNIT housing flat among others and the Structured Crystal of the Ghanaian Economy.
