KNUST Holds 2015/2016 Matriculation Ceremony




To keep pace with global transformation, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has made reforms in its internal systems and procedures with the aim of providing a conducive environment for teaching, learning and high level research in accordance with its mandate.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, the Vice-Chancellor, made this known at the matriculation ceremony for freshmen and women for the 2015/2016 academic year. According to Prof. Ellis, some of these changes include the provision of special SIM cards to students for SMS and voice data for research and communication.

Others are the modernisation and retooling of various libraries, studios, workshops, laboratories and the provision of campus wifi internet connectivity hotspots. Structures such as the Office of the Dean of Students, the Students’ Clinic, the Counselling Unit, the Shuttle Service, the Chaplaincies and mentorship by academic tutors are all attempts at providing the best for a holistic development.

Prof. Otoo Ellis advised the fresh students to make maximum use of their admission to KNUST which is a rare privilege and a conducive environment to add value to themselves to become useful citizens and impact the lives of other citizens in Ghana and Africa upon their completion. Ben Andoh, the Acting Registrar, administered the matriculation oath.

During this year’s admission exercise, there was a total of 29,891 applicants for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the University. Out of this number, 21,138 applicants qualified but 16,757 were offered admission.  Out of the total number admitted, 9,397 applicants made up of 6,889 undergraduate and 2,508 postgraduate students have accepted the admission and have registered as students of KNUST. The number includes 226 international students from 29 countries.
