I have been observing for a while now and it looks like Cape Coast musicians ain’t catching the eyes of the student body in UCC. It appears the CC artistes have not lived up to the standard of which the institutions would spend their dime.
Looking through most of the events and programs going on – on campus , one would ask questions why the event organizers in UCC do not call musicians who are fortunate to be located in the same territory.
We have great musicians in Cape Coast that are doing great works like the Orkortor Perry’s, Teephlow’s, Eshun’s, Capone’s and others. What might have caused this neglect? Are the students not familiar with these artistes?
Since the inception of music in Cape Coast by these new acts, there has never been a case where artists from CC has been seen or heard thrilling fans at any event at UCC.
Speaking to a student from UCC, he mentioned that most of these students who hail from Accra and Kumasi would only attend or patronize the already established artistes. ”Aside Teephlow to be very honest, I’ve not heard any good music from any Cape artiste. And probably one or two songs from Orkortor Perry” he added.
Another student shared an opinion that, it’s the branding aspect which is a worry to most of them. Most of the artistes rush to drop music which doesn’t even play on most radio stations, how then do we patronize an unknown artiste. ”The point is they need to brand themselves well and come out with hits singles featuring top artiste in the industries”.
Furthermore , it is observed that the students body in various institutions are the back bone of many successful artist in the country. If the students will accept your brand then you are good to go. A little advice to our brothers is to back up their game , get closer to the students body and who knows what might come out of that.
